The warm weather today along with seeing the first Daphodils opening up has me thinking about my patio. There is a talented group of designers in Portland at Revolution Designhouse who are responsible for the lounge chair in this picture and many other, locally designed and produced products. They are well made, classicly modern and, well, I must have some! Spring’s on it’s way…YAY!
I had some one ask about this photo that I used for one of my clients (you can see more pictures of this project on my website at Lord Design). The photo is by Steve Eltinge my dear friend and photographer. I gave him an idea of what I wanted, he took some shots that fit the description of what I was looking for and let me chose just the right one. He then had it enlarged and made into a giclee to fit what I had designed in for the wall in my elevation (that’s the little drawing shown here). It’s an awesome way to get original, local art for my clients! Thank you Steve for being so great to work with!
I had the very special pleasure of designing a piece of furniture for a family who was dealing with the scary reality of cancer. This family love each other intensely and they wanted a place where they could go and all three girls and their parents can snuggle together. So I designed “the nest”. The room it is in used to be a sun room then it was just a storage room. The family wanted to reclaim it as a cozy destination. I think we did it. Eventually it will be where the cello is set up and practice can happen while looking over the beautiful lights of Portland, Oregon. These clients/friends are absolutely some of the best people I have ever met. I am honored to know them and witness the strength of love during this battle. And the best news ever is that the cancer is gone! Yay!
I love color! Whether it’s in a contemporary setting like this one or a very cozy cottage, color makes the space…even if the chosen color is white. Stay tuned for my use of white in the very near future, it’s delicious! I was called in to do a color consult with this client while the house was under construction, which was so cool! I then did a furniture plan that included a custom area rug and furniture that I designed. You can’t tell from my poor photography, but the colors are lush and warm. The walls are a warm, green-yellow and the floor is an amazing stained concrete with a brilliant mix of warm colors. I know I’ve said this before, but I love what I do. I was honored to work along side of my clients in helping put the finishing touches on a home that they built from the heart.
